Patrick Calnan

Patrick CalnanSelf-proclaimed as the elder of the band by virtue of being several years older than everyone else, Patrick joined dyssia after several years of playing with local Ottawa bands such as Flag Of Truce, The (original) Gutterboys and Quam. While no one else had ever heard of those bands either, Patrick was easily the most experienced musician in the group.

A self-taught drummer whose style was unconventional, Patrick's playing suited the manic energies of the band's music. And because he was the roommate of the drummer for Black Triangle, a mainstay of the Ottawa punk scene at that time, Patrick was able to arrange several shows with that band providing greater exposure for dyssia than the group could have obtained on its own.

Patrick contributed to the band's songwriting primarily through lyrics which he provided for such songs as "Diligence", "Edgar Allen Poe", "May Day Parade", "The Moral Majority", "Pater Infidelis", "Providence", and several others. Through his involvement as a co-host and co-producer of the Rogers Community 22 program, cyberpunk.live, Patrick also incorporated some of dyssia's songs into the show's soundtrack.

Following the dissolution of the band, Patrick moved to Detroit, Michigan where he lived and worked for a few years before returning to Canada. He is still active in the music scene as he is a founding partner in Lonesome Studios Productions as well as a member of CDs Guise. After a few years in the U.S., Patrick moved back to Ottawa where he currently resides.
