Ice Cold

"Ice Cold" became a favorite on The Gutterboys set list due to its fast pace and catchy riff. This recording is the original songwriting demo that stemmed from a creative session at Patrick's parents' house in Manotick late one night. Several Gutterboys tunes came out of sessions like this and the audio clip is a rare find from the band's musical archives demonstrating a little of how the songwriting process worked for them.

The recording was done on Ray's Fostex X-15 multi-track cassette recorder and apart from the mixing and some audio cleanup by Ray, is a live-to-tape record of an early version of this song.

If you listen closely, you can hear Patrick's sister Janice who was tickled during the "party noise" introduction in an attempt to garner some spontaneous laughter. You can also hear her dog, Peanuts, voicing her objection to this treatment. The clinking noises are actual beer bottles being tapped together although the band will claim that these came from a box of empties that had been consumed long beforehand.
