Local Musicians Unite To Support Ottawa Humane Society

Ottawa, February 28, 2003 - Loud music and animals don't normally go 
hand in hand.  But on March 22nd, a unique initiative unfolds as Café 
Dekcuf hosts a benefit concert dubbed "Animal Noises" featuring Tammy 
Raybould, Charley Beck, Picklecatz, DarkStar and Sweetland to raise 
money in support of the Ottawa Humane Society.  This marks the first 
time in five years that the National Capital Region will see a 
benefit concert to further the cause of animal welfare.

"Musicians are pet owners too," states Patrick Calnan, organizer of 
the event.  "And while many of us participate in walkathons and other 
fundraisers, we felt this would be a good way to put our talents to 
work generating funds for an important cause."

"We were really excited when Patrick called us with his idea," 
expresses Candice Nelson, Coordinator of Third Party Events for the 
OHS.  "All of the bands have donated their time to help raise 
awareness and to support the Humane Society's work.  We're very 
grateful!"

Café Dekcuf is located at 221 Rideau Street.  Doors open for the 
March 22nd show at 8:00pm with a $10.00 cover charge.  All proceeds 
go directly to the Ottawa Humane Society.

The Ottawa Humane Society is a non-profit, community-based 
organization and registered charity with a volunteer Board of 
Directors drawn from supporters and the community at large.  For more 
than 112 years, the OHS has been the leading organization providing a 
safe haven for sick, injured and homeless animals in Ottawa.

Tammy Raybould, Charley Beck, Picklecatz, DarkStar, and Sweetland are 
among some of the best independent musical acts currently active in 
the Ottawa music scene.
