Recording The Singles
The bulk of these pictures were taken in May 1990 on the first night of our one and only professional recording session at Ambience Studios.
Ray guards the van
While the rest of the band was transferring instruments and equipment, Ray guarded Todd’s van.
Loading in
J.P.’s guitar amp was one of the biggest and heaviest pieces of equipment to move.
The drummer's actually carrying an amp!
Everybody had to lend a hand.
Todd tunes his bass
Tuning and preparing actually took more time than the recording itself.
Mic'ing the drum kit
Pat's biggest complaint about the process was that he was finished first and didn't have much to do afterward.
J.P. in the control booth
Our very first time inside a professional recording studio.
Jamming at the piano
Todd and J.P. collaborating on a rendition of "Heart and Soul".
Yet more jamming at the piano
Tickling the ivories while Marc set up his microphone levels.
Ray prepares to record a guitar track
Ray was the veteran of the recording process having studied audio engineering at Trebas Institute.
Laying down a smooth groove
It was an interesting experience being shut inside an isolation booth.
J.P. overdubs a guitar track
This might have been a lead guitar solo.
The half-naked bass player
We're not going to ask Todd where his pants went.
Todd and Marc Porter setting some levels
Marc Porter was our sound engineer assigned by Ambience Studios.
Marc Porter at the console
The recording process was both painstaking and complex.
